A Board Certified Criminal Law expert who has dedicated his career to the practice of criminal law, with more than 25 years in Texas courtrooms.
Jeffrey D. Parker is a Board Certified Criminal Law expert who has dedicated his career to the practice of criminal law. Licensed in Texas since 1999, he has spent more than 25 years in the courtroom as both a prosecutor and as a criminal defense attorney.
Mr. Parker earned his undergraduate degree from Baylor University and his law degree from Baylor Law School. He has tried more than 200 jury trials in courts ranging from municipal court to district court, handling everything from Class C misdemeanors to capital death penalty felonies.
Mr. Parker's years as a prosecutor give him a perspective most defense attorneys simply don't have. Early in his legal careeer, he served as an Assistant County Attorney with the Bell County Attorney's Office, prosecuting misdemeanor criminal cases. He later served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Coryell County District Attorney's Office, prosecuting felony cases.
That experience taught him how cases are evaluated, how plea negotiations unfold, and how the State prepares for trial. Today, he uses that knowledge to anticipate the prosecution's strategy and exploit weaknesses in the State's case.
Mr. Parker's appellate practice is built on a foundation of substantial trial experience. Having tried so many cases himself, he understands how errors occur at trial (evidentiary rulings, jury charge problems, and procedural missteps) and how to present those issues persuasively to appellate courts.
His appellate work includes representation before all Texas intermediate courts of appeals, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans.
What Does Board Certified Mean, and Why Should You Care? Since 2008, Mr. Parker has been Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
If you've been searching for a criminal defense attorney, you've probably seen a lot of impressive-sounding claims. Here's one that actually means something: Board Certification in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Of the more than 118,000 attorneys licensed in Texas, fewer than 800 hold this designation in criminal law (that's less than one percent). Jeff Parker is among them.
To become Board Certified, an attorney must demonstrate years of substantial, focused criminal law experience (not just occasional criminal cases mixed in with other work) but deep, concentrated practice. They must pass peer review by other attorneys and judges, and pass a written examination covering Texas criminal law, federal criminal law, and legal ethics. Then they must maintain that certification through ongoing education and periodic recertification which involves twice the requirements of non-certified Texas attorneys.
Many criminal defense attorneys are competent. Board Certification identifies those who have proven it.
